Veterans’ Rock
Rocks by Matt Stratton
Veteran’s Rock is a project born from The Jacob C. Carroll Memorial 5K. We wanted to make something special for military families to honor, remember and cherish their loved ones who serve their country. I believe that Veterans deserve to be honored, remembered, respected and thanked for their sacrifices, which make our Freedoms possible. Over the years, it has morphed into a way of honoring all of America’s heroes, those who are still with us and those who sacrificed all. Making these rocks brings me great joy, and hopefully honors our Veterans in the process. 25% of all proceeds are donated to support Veteran causes.
The logo is based on the Greek titan Atlas. Atlas was often depicted as carrying the heavens in the form of a globe. Atlas was said to have supported the pillars that held heaven and earth apart, and was later said to have been turned into a rocky mountain. I believe like Atlas, our Veterans are the Titans who carry freedom on their shoulders. You are the ones who support the pillars that hold our values and liberty in place. Much like Atlas, the duty can both be a burden and a honor. Thank you for all that you do. Veteran’s are the rock on which Freedom is Painted. I hope that I can paint something that honors and applauds your sacrifice and service.
The Rocks are painted with materials that are appropriate for indoor or outdoor use. Keeping rocks outdoors will limit the lifespan of the paint to 3-5 years and colors could fade. Each rock is coated with multiple clear coating to prevent this as much as possible. It is recommended spraying a clear gloss coat on every two years. I recommend Krylon ColorMaxx Clear Gloss for its ease of use.
